University Of Ghana

The University of Ghana is Ghana's most prominent university and one of Africa's most prestigious universities. The University of Ghana is the oldest and largest of Ghana's six public universities, having been founded in 1948.

The University provides distinctive courses in the arts, business, physical and biological sciences, law, agriculture, nuclear and related sciences, and engineering sciences, with an aim to generate world-class human resources to tackle global development concerns.

We also offer courses in medicine, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, and allied health disciplines through our College of Health Sciences.

Our faculty members are involved in studies that assist policymaking for national development, typically in partnership with other international institutes, through our research institutes and other centres of learning and research.

The University of Ghana currently has affiliation with a number of Ghanaian and international institutions. We have various connection agreements with universities in Africa, Europe, and North America for student, faculty, and staff exchange, as well as joint research, as a leader in tertiary education.

The International Association of Universities, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Norwegian Universities' Committee for Development Research and Education, the Council for International Educational Exchange in New York, the International Student Exchange Programs, and the Commonwealth Universities Student Exchange Consortium are all members of the University. The League of World Universities has accepted the University of Ghana as a member.

For the academic year 2009/10, our student population was 41,964. Students enrolling in our sandwich programs, distance education, and students from linked institutions all fall under this category.

Our students are able to benefit from the large network of the university’s alumni found in reputable institutions and organizations throughout Ghana and across the globe.
